Established in 1975, Plymouth Optical was one of many opticians located in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts. Gregory Andros purchased Plymouth Optical in 1985 and immediately began to set his shop apart from the surrounding practices. Finding that the needs of the business professionals working downtown were not being met by the existing opticians, Greg began to offer a higher quality product along with more convenient service. Since all of the work was done on-site, the turnaround time for filling a prescription was cut drastically, many times taking less than a day.
Changing the name to Specs Perry in 1986 was a way to show the public that this optical shop was on a different path heading into the 21st century. Leaving downtown Springfield for a larger space at its current location was not a difficult decision. The established client base appreciated the easier access, and the convenient location continues to attract new business from all over Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut as well as national and international.
Our commitment to service continues today. Our in-house finishing lab handles 99% of all work. Want to use your existing frames for your new prescription? Not a problem. Our computerized edging system allows you to have your new lenses ground to perfection without having to leave your frames with us. And there's NEVER a charge for that service!
At Specs Perry, you will always be helped by a licensed optician. Owner Gregory Andros has been a Massachusetts licensed optician since 1981 and is a current member of both the Opticians Association of Massachusetts and the American Board of Opticianry. He is also the co-founder of the Independent Registered Opticians Society.
Optician Lindsey Walsh has been a licensed Massachusetts optician since 2010. She is also a member of the American Board of Opticianry in addition to the Opticians Association of Massachusetts.
